Care & Cleaning

How to keep gold, diamonds, polki, emerald and pearl looking the way they did on day one.

Everyday care

  • Put jewellery on last, after perfume, hairspray and lotion — these are the main cause of a dulled finish.
  • Take it off first, before swimming, exercising, or housework involving chemicals.
  • Store pieces separately, or in individual pouches — gold scratches gold, and stones scratch softer metal.

Cleaning at home

For plain gold and diamond pieces: warm water, a drop of mild soap, and a soft brush at the back of the setting, where oil and skin residue collect unseen. Dry fully before storing — moisture trapped against gold is what causes tarnishing over time, not the metal itself.

What to avoid

Emerald
Never use an ultrasonic cleaner. Emeralds are commonly oil-treated to improve clarity, and ultrasonic vibration strips that oil, leaving the stone visibly duller.
Pearl
Never use an ultrasonic cleaner or harsh chemicals. Pearls are organic and porous — wipe with a soft, slightly damp cloth only, after each wear.
Polki & kundan
Never soak. The gold foil backing behind uncut stones isn’t sealed the way a modern claw setting is, and water can seep in and dull the reflection behind the stone.
Meenakari
Avoid direct sunlight for extended periods — enamel colour can fade gradually with prolonged UV exposure, the same way any pigment does.

Our free annual service

Bring anything bought from us back once a year and we’ll clean it, check every claw and setting for wear, and re-polish it — at no charge, for as long as you own the piece. It’s a ten-minute visit that catches a loose stone long before it’s lost.
